Written in late 2019 and then leading into the pandemic, Roughing the Passer chronicles a strange transition of outward and inward feelings of vulnerability. The record itself is a reference to men creating rules and controls to retain power between the sexes - a seemingly arbitrary set of constructs designed to protect our vulnerable male "heroes". Suddenly as the life-changing events of the pandemic landed in early 2020, the latter half of the record portrays Grant's own vulnerabilities in the face of a very uncertain time - anxiety and panic attacks and relationship difficulties while trapped in close quarters. The observation deck goes from the outward-thinking to the inward in a short amount of time. IDM-infused techno twists through corrogated textures walking a balance beam of the DJ-friendly and wildly off-kilter rhythms, largely inspired partly by the DJ set constructions of Hank Jackson and Richard Gamble. Following the completion of 'Roughing the Passer', Pleaxure recruited Coffintexts of Miami, FL to remix 'The Great Quiet' from the record. Fresh off the collaborative release 'Media Noche' with INVT, Coffintexts brings a hard-hitting and spin-friendly flip on the final introspective track on the record. All proceeds of 'Roughing the Passer' will be donated to Miami Community Fridge.
