Raven is Definition's newest track and lead single ahead of the Lux EP, released alongside a Remix by Jonas Ratshman. The track is a voyage through the highest heights and unapologetic lows of the human existence. When the beat hits and conga-like drums and chants set in, powerful and determined, you find yourself reminiscing about another world, one you've never seen but deep down know is there. The throbbing and driving four-on-the-floor keeps you moving with certainty. The track grows, slowly but steadily, one layer after another, meandering through different motions. Playfully plucked melody lines and intricate hi-hat patterns evolve into waves of legato synth lines. Followed by an endless moment in time, carried solely by high-end synth-stabs and metallic drum sounds, it finally escalates into a roaring flood of dirty synth basses. It's only after, that serenely vocals reveal and tell the story of knowing oneself and what it takes to be honest enough to admit defeat solely to be able to move on. All underpinned by a relentless rhythm, the kind that draws you in and, once it's got a hold of you, never quite lets go. Jonas Ratshman's remix of Raven is just as easy to indulge in as the original. With a strong emphasis on offbeat elements and skilfully placed high-end melodic fragments, Ratshman's remix grows into a slightly more dance floor orientated version of the tune. Bright chords and subtly placed vocal crescendo's inviting in forgotten summer feels are complemented by cleverly layered call-response build up's, leading you astray in a maze of your own thoughts whilst dancing the night away. A mellow kick sound that makes you want to move steadily, an early on-set vocal taking you by the hand. This remix is a dreamlike and wistful marriage between pumping low- ends from the techno world and spine-tingling bright pads, driving beats and glistening shimmers of sweet high-end effects. Ratshman has managed to highlight another shade of the original - a co-release that makes for a tempting addition. Raven is demanding. It's like falling out of the sky into deep waters, getting lost and being found, over and over and over. Out via Definition:Music on 29. January 2021
