What do Italian wine producer Emidio Pepe, modern architecture pioneer Le Corbusier and fictional Seinfeld character Cosmo Kramer have in common? The answer is they're all the inspiration behind tracks on the excellently titled 'Châteauneuf-du-Papi' project by North West London rapper Slim Papi.
Over melodic, hyper-referential hip-hop beats, he delivers rhymes packed with clever wordplay and Action Bronson-esque culinary expertise. Asked to describe his rapping style, it's like "a cartoon Massimo Bouttura trapped in a psychedelic Ian Fleming novel set in the Costa del Sol," apparently.
The 4-track project sees the orator trade lyrics, recipes and wine recommendations alongside Westside Gunn collaborator Sonnyjim and Blah! Records stand out Jam Baxter over production from Goya Gumbani collaborator, Kiina, Astral Black label-boss Jon Phonics & Tru Thoughts producer Forest DLG.
