Producer Heavenly Stems provides the seventh in a series of eight remixes of 'Flung Further', a remix album of Emma-Kate Matthews' 2020 'Far Flung' EP. The euphoric driving gallop of the drums in this remix of 'Go With You' touch on the world of Jon Hopkins, contrasting against tempo shifted string sections and full of the glow of morning sunlight. This is both a remix and significant composition in its own right.
London based Heavenly Stems is the solo project of electronic producer Ben Rimmer, founding member and producer of Oxford band Trophy Wife. Following a remix of Lake Turner (Algebra/Kompakt)'s he released his two debut EPs Florals and Shell as two sides of a green 12" on Algebra Records in 2021 and he has just remixed Orlando Weeks (ex The Maccabees) 'Deep Down Way Out' for [PIAS].
Emma-Kate Matthews is a London-based multidisciplinary artist, composer and architect and released the Far Flung EP on Algebra Records at the end of 2020 as a series of limited edition transparent lathe cut 12"s with handmade textile artwork and audio-reactive visuals. Far Flung is a complex collage of dance floor adjacent electronica that gets you thinking and moving.
Each remix includes new video art by Emma-Kate.
The Far Flung EP explores the contrasting styles of synthesised versus acoustic sounds, field recordings versus musical motifs and digital versus analogue techniques for producing and manipulating sounds. Eerie drones are interwoven with complex upbeat rhythms, deep layered harmonies and erratic melodies to form an elastic sonic fabric which oscillates between moments of lightweight sonic ambiguity and highly-charged musical statements.
The remixes are being released once per week until the album is released in full on the 8th of December 2021 with remixes from Julia-Sophie, Casually Here, Dampé, Eye Measure, Sunplus, Ben McDonnell and Emma-Kate Matthews herself.
Algebra Records is run by Casually Here (Nic Nell) to support emerging artists both practically & collegiately, & to help foster artistic community & context. Upcoming releases include artists Sami El-Enany, Liam Hutton, ELY and the next Casually Here album.
Heavenly Stems Florals and Link played by Dave Gilyeat on BBC Introducing and by Orlando Weeks on BBC 6 Music.
Emma-Kate Matthews - Far Flung EP has been played by Rebecca Gaskell on BBC Radio 3, Nic Luscombe (Late Junction) on CIC Tokyo Radio and by Dampé on Rinse FM with a 1 hour guest mix on Rinse on the 30th of October.
