After decades of silence, the listener is treated to music by one of the most uniquely voiced Estonian singer-songwriters of all time - Peeter Tooma. The bass of his vocals will caress your ears, the lyrics of his songs, if understood, will make you smile or cry, and the mood will take you to another space and time.
"Unistuste Maal" is unreleased music from 1969-1979, which was denied by the Soviet authorities for they feared it included some doublespeak (which it most certainly did). "Lõvilaps" is a children's song compilation recorded mostly in 1976-1978, with (1) and (11) recorded in '21. "Vana Kaabu" was fully recorded in 2021, as the 74 years young Mr. Tooma took to studio to record some new songs and covers in his characteristic modes.
We are now able to enjoy his music from 1969-2021 on CD and via streaming. Archival materials were remastered and fresh material produced by Tõnu Raadik, with Evelin Võigemast joining in to sing new songs. Most of the music has sat in the Estonian radio archives for over 40 years, having been denied release by the Soviet authorities during its original recording time.
Singer-songwriter Peeter Tooma (1946) is likely to be recognized by his voice rather than by name. The artist who famously recorded “Põgene, Vaba Laps” and “Pistoda Laul” simply cannot be mimicked. His unique timbre has placed him next to other iconic Estonian artists like Georg Ots and Jaak Joala. Never one for the spotlight, Tooma prefers the simple things in life.
