" Music for the Education of Children in Space " : the thought of human beings growing up in spaceships in a near future stimulated Guess What's wit and inventivity to elaborate this fun, weird and groovy LP. Space-jazz, nursery rhymes, hip-hop beats, cosmic synthesizers, science or sports lessons – all participate to a curious and wonderful journey.
Formed by Graham Mushnik (Derya Yıldırım & Grup Şimşek) and Luke Warmcop (Phat Dat), the keys & drums duet have been around for nearly 15 years and have dedicated much of their work to space exploration (tribute albums to astronaut Yuri Gagarin and to astronomist Al-Khawarizmi).
In this 4th album, they bring vocals and lyrics to the foreground for the first time ; notably with the space disco anthem " Lessons In Space " in which physics theories and exercises are rapped, as if Bruce Haack and Tom Tom Club had collaborated for a wacky space education program !
Following their tradition, Guess What like to pay tributes - to NASA's " teacher in space " program leader Christa McAuliffe who died in spaceship Challenger in 1986, but also to Romanian children's TV show " Misiunea Spatiala Delta " and to Sun Ra's space-inspired jazz songs.
Inside the LP's sleeve, little ones (and big ones too!) will find a 3D miniature cut-out rocket (the same as the band's stage life-size rocket), to take the " Children In Space " experience one dimension further.
