Rolf Wallinis a prominent figure among Scandinavia's contemporary composers, performed and commissioned internationally. His musical background takes in jazz, avant-garde rock, early music and a thorough traditional classical training. This versatility is reflected in a many-faceted collection of works, covering a diverse range of techniques and expressions: from absolute music for the concert hall to opera and installations; from elaborate computer-aided composition in his instrumental music to strongly intuitive music for the stage. His close collaboration with leading percussion groups and soloists has led to some especially remarkable results. Pieces like Stonewave and Twine have entered the standard percussion repertoire and are regularly played worldwide. This album celebrates his collaboration with SISU Percussion Ensemble, a relationship that has evolved over many decades and has taken many forms.
SISU Percussion Ensemble, established in 1993, is one of the leading percussion ensembles in Scandinavia, and an important force in the contemporary music scene. Their fearless artistic attitude and playfulness on stage, combined with great stamina, commitment and precision, have led to numerous collaborations with composers in Norway and abroad, and been received to critical acclaim at concert venues internationally.
