Daniel Casimir
Safe, Pt. 1
Jazz re:freshed
- Cat No: JRF0029DD
- Release: 2021-03-12
The premise of Daniel Casimir's forthcoming album, due out later this year on the Jazz re:freshed label, is both a celebration of Black British Culture and a critique of the genres, labels and stereotypes which have traditionially been placed upon black musicians. The music takes a step outside of prescribed ideas.
This, the first single. Safe Pt1, is inspired by Derek Owusu's book of the same title which outlines the experience of being black in Britain.
Combining classical orchestral instruments with a jazz quintet and a mild sprinkling of live drum and bass, the single resembles a futuristic James Bond score.
The stellar line-up of contemporary jazz greats on the single include Moses Boyd on drums, Nubya Garcia on tenor sax, Rosie Turton on trombone, Al MacSween on piano and James Copus on trumpet.
