The VW Karmann Ghia is a sports car sold between 1955-1974, the Karmann Ghia combined the chassis and mechanics of the classic VW Beetle, with styling by Italy's Carrozzeria Ghia, and hand-built bodywork by German coachbuilding house 'Karmann'. Hence the name 'Karmann Ghia'. Phil has what can only be described as an obsession with early air-cooled VW cars, a collector of both VW Beetles and vintage synthesizers.
Now let's hear about the music. A simple description of how this went down in the studio would be something like this. The vintage analogue machines were all set up with each synth doing one sound out of each synth and then played back and recorded as one take, moving effects and parameters live. An adventure into sound using all that is analogue; clicks, hisses and faults all included. A system of setting up one waveform on each machine and then have it all running at once on playback. Accidents welcome and imperfections a must.
