Following the release of his 5th album A Work Of Heart comes the instrumental version whose beats have gone down a storm with DJs such as Manny Norte requesting copies of their own.
The vocal version of the album was much lauded by BBC6 Music and received support from DJs such as Gilles Peterson, Tom Robinson and Gideon Coe.
The sounds are a mixture of crisp, bouncy production and live instrumentation and the beats on Brixton Baby are a nod to Roy Ayers summery grooves and As The Smoke Clears features beats by Tall Black Guy
Ty sets out to create an album where every beat, sound and idea are coherently fused. "I wanted to move away from the hip hop album approach where a bunch of disparate beats by different producers....are strung together", the rapper explains. "With every...instrument, I thought about whether they suit the themes and moods...then decide what to include accordingly."
Over the course of his career Ty has collaborated with De La Soul, Tony Allen, Roots Manuva and Omar.
As with the vocal release, this album is out on the Jazz re:freshed label whch is doing big things at the moment.
So far this year the vocal version of the album has received airplay on BBC 6 Music, BBC 1Xtra as well as BaseFM in New Zealand, Njoy in Germany, NOVA in France . It has been supported by DJs including Tom Robinson (interview), Trevor Nelson, Gilles Peterson, Mistajam and Don Letts. Telerama in France gave the album 3/3 and a number of local radio stations - Radio Campus Besancon, Radio Campus Lorraine, Surf FM, Radio Active, Radio Fajet, REC, Radioi Campus Angers, La Boucle, Radio Declic - in the same territory have playlisted tracks or the whole album. In Germany, tracks have been playlisted by numerous radio stations including NDR Info, NDR Blue, Bremen 2, RBB Kulturradio, Cosmo, BDR Zundfunk, Eins Live, Orange, Kanal K, Okerwelle, Leinehertz and Radio X.
