Following our reissue of the coveted Touching the Times 12" last summer, State of Grace's David Inglesfield provides two updated and refreshingly contemporary re-edits - revisiting the original track all of 40 years since it's original release.
"While I was revisting the audio for the reissue of the original track, I started looping sections of it, over and over" says Inglesfield. "I liked the effect and soon realised I had the basis for a new mix, focusing on the 'In Your Eyes' line in the verse lyrics." This "In Your Eyes Mix" largely keeps the original's distinctive electro-funk groove intact, though through the introduction of deft chops, crisp hi hats, and booming 808 kicks it has become re-tooled and re-arranged with modern dancefloors in mind.
On the other hand "The Times We Had Mix" employs a more experimental approach, taking inspiration from the ambient end of vaporwave. "I had also been listening to various slowed-down, reverb-drenched slushwave tracks" continues Inglesfield, "and that was the inspiration for the 'The Times We Had' mix, which has a nostalgic, melancholic mood."
