Four Flies is delighted to present yet another gem rescued from obscurity, this time a previously unreleased soundtrack composed and recorded by Augusto Martelli for a 1974 exotic-erotic adventure flick set on a tropical island. The Genoese composer famously had a passion for the music of Central and South America, at least since his collaborations with Italian pop stars like Mina, for whom he arranged breathtaking versions of bossa nova classics such as Jobim’s “Insensatez”. That passion found expression especially in his work as a film composer, not only in the superb soundtrack for Il Dio Serpente (1970), but also in this 23-track score. With an evocative palette ranging from celestial vocal harmonies ("Mondo Esotico"), tribal percussion ("Rito Polinesiano") and compelling romantic themes ("Indigene e marinai"), to mysterious and sinister atmospheres ("Bongo Synth"), Martelli’s inventive genius creates exotic sounds that will make you feel like you’re in a tropical paradise, the ocean breeze gently blowing on your skin.
