Firm and cut fitting low, Margee aka Alexandre Gimard delivers a balearic epiphany out of the Côte d'Azur town of Grimaud, with cosmic tribal hero Roberto Lodola on an epiphanic reconstruction.'Mathilda', Margee's first work on Balearic Ensemble, wears funk and acid jazz colours against a strong balearic backdrop. Woozy pads, sultry vocal snippets, soaring arpeggios over a tightly constructed groove. Takes us to frivolity on the Med, circa 1978. To our great fortune, we also get the Vibra in Limbo mix, a more restrained take on the original that sets foot down the stone path to the club and veers off into vibraphonic eccentricity. Roy Ayers, poolside, at Pikes. You wouldn't miss that, would you? Didn't think so.So the story goes: one day around sunset, after maybe a few too many margaritas, we sat atop our balearic hideaway in the hills, listening back to these songs, visualising them in the wild. It was then that a thought occurred, unforgettable, unmistakable. One thing led to another, and that led to this. The Roberto Lodola remix of Mathilda is our dream collaboration, a 6 and a half minute house-tinged marvel from a figure so entwined in the chronicles of Italian dance music that we won't even begin to try.Roberto has been a friend and an influence for some time, shaping the way we think about this mysterious thing called balearic music, showing us the 'Italian way', the other side. We're proud to present his remix as the third and final track of the Mathilda EP. No description necessary. Enjoy.
