"Haunting dark folk-tronic fissures and shapeshifting shoegaze-dreampop" Boomkat
"Sunburst," the new single by Beirut-based electronic pop duo Snakeskin, begins with singer Julia Sabra taking a deep breath before plunging into the abyss. Producer Fadi Tabbal's drums slither, spit and snarl. By the time Sabra starts singing of teeth sinking into jaws and cheeks burning into tongues, the duo have a tight grip on you that doesn't let up.
The track announces Snakeskin's sophomore album "They Kept Our Photographs", due for release in the fall of 2024 on London's Mais Um label. The album sees the duo building on their critically-acclaimed self-titled debut, dialing up the noise while keeping the celestial quality of their soundscapes intact. Tabbal's production branches into new directions - with excursions into hyperpop and electronica - and Sabra's lyrics mine new depths, turning the violence around them into visceral poetry, exploring ever darker and deeper currents.
