The tracks in this release come from a rare 7-inch vinyl single by the Underground Set, a progressive rock band from Genoa, Italy, formed by the same members as pop-psychedelic group Nuova Idea, who had to use a different name here due to contractual reasons (they were also known as Hot Underground Group and The Psycheground Group). Active in the early 1970s, the band was led by two enlightened producer-composers: brothers Gian Franco and Gian Piero Reverberi, who relied on the Underground Set mainly for recording film and television soundtracks and jingles.
Presented here for the first time in digital format, "Motor Road Underground" and "Slaughter On The Motor Road" were specifically created as the theme music for the 18-episode TV series "Campagna Nazionale Sicurezza Stradale 1970" (National Road Safety Campaign 1970). Both gritty and muscular hard-prog gems, they are rich in distortions, fuzz effects, and driving rhythms, and, like many other songs from the band, carry on the style of some British rhythm'n'blues from the late '60s.
