Chocolate Ashtray is the first single of molto morbidi's upcoming eponymous EP following the release of her debut album String Cheese Theory out in the beginning of 2024 on No Salad Records. It is a very synthy song, along the lines of OMD, with a playful piano line and a dance feel. Although the song definitively gives off a pop vibe, there are elements of micro-modulation and repetitive patterns on similar notes, reminiscent of minimal music and the likes of Terry Riley or La Monte Young. The repetition triggers also definitively something in the vein of Neu!. The lyrics notion of merit and the bias it introduces regarding how we tend to value our actions and life.
