One of the most sought-after trumpet players releases her debut self-produced EP, 'Keep On Going' on Jazz re:freshed.
The title is inspired by a phrase used by Poppy's family and close friends throughout her life: "Keep on going." A powerful reminder that even in challenging times, there is always the hope that things will improve. This theme of perseverance and renewal is the backbone of the project, reflecting Poppy's own journey.
The EP was co-written with bassist Alley Lloyd (Colectiva, Fleur East, Poppy Ajudha, Yazmin Lacey) with significant contribution by her incredible bandmate Eddie Lee, who co-wroteKeep on Going. James Akers and Allexa Nava also feature on various tracks throughout the EP.
Each track is a reflection of a key event or turning point in Poppy's life during 2022 and 2023, with the music written in real-time as events unfolded.
Poppy Daniels has built a reputation as a key figure in the UK jazz scene, collaborating with some of the most respected artists including Blue Lab Beats, Daniel Casimir, Celeste, Jordan Rakei, Arlo Parks, Hak Baker, Nix Northwest, Komodo Horns and more.
"Keep On Going" is a must-stock for contemporary jazz, neo-soul, and instrumental hip-hop sections.
The six-track collection showcases Daniels' warm, distinctive trumpet voice alongside her top-tier London ensemble. Lead single "Boundaries" exemplifies her knack for melodic hooks within sophisticated jazz frameworks, while tracks like "2AM" and "Keep On Going" reveal deeper emotional textures.
Fans of Emma-Jean Thackray and Yazz Ahmed will find much to love here.
