"Kadıköy" is the second single from Brazilian musician Maurício Fleury's upcoming solo album Revoada. The secret ingredient across albums by Gal Costa, Mateus Aleluia (Os Tincoãs), and João Donato as well as with his own group, São Paulo's (Afro Brazilian take on) Afrobeat collective Bixiga 70, Fleury writes, arranges and plays in a dizzying variety of musical styles at the intersection of traditional and modern Brazilian musical traditions.
"In 2017 I went to Istambul to play a Jazz Festival and had just a couple free hours in the city. Being an old time fan of 60s and 70s Turkish music (Barış Manço, Erkin Koray, Cem Karaca, etc.), I went straight for a digging session in Kadıköy, a neighborhood on the Asian side. I found some records but it was really hectic, and then I started dreaming of all the tunes I didn't find on that day, and this is the song that resulted from that dream. Since I moved to Berlin, I started practicing the Saz (or Bağlama), but that's another story."
