Look Down, See Us is the first release on Evar Records.
Trickinger made this music primarily on a DX7, a few old drum machines & samplers, a 202 and modular, recorded into Renoise. The objective for these tunes was to make the most out of as few machines as possible, as exemplified by the opening track, GR 8, which was made on only one drum machine, with what synths there are triggering from that same piece of hardware. Each tune is stylistically distinct. GR 8 is Bass/Deep House/IDM, Meaning To is Electro/Breaks/IDM,
Cymm Trace is Jump Up Jungle in 7/4 at 180 BPM, and the title track is Dark Ambient/Jungle/IDM, inspired partially by Bowie's (and Tony Visconti's) Berlin period. Each track also uses a different drum machine. Meaning To is the RY-30, Look Down, See Us is an LM1, and GR 8 is of course the R8. Aside from GR 8, all the tracks contain breakbeats, but Cymm Trace is breaks only, using Akai samplers from the early 90s. The title is intentionally ambiguous. It may be a plea to God to recognize this planet of people who technology has transformed so completely in character from insane dancers to isolated voyeurs, orit may be the inhabitants of Hell wanting us to appreciate them as images. On the other hand it may simply be Trickfinger asking the observer of the cover to look down from that irregular galaxy and see Aura-T09, himself, and all their future labelmates as represented by the 4 Evar logo in the lower right corner. This EP was recorded in 2019.
