That’s Love Records is honored to present Neblinas del Pacífico and Eryen Korath.
Latin Grammy–nominated Eryen Korath is a globally respected scholar and masterful interpreter of Marimba de Chonta and the traditional songs of Colombia’s Pacific Coast.
Based in San Francisco, Neblinas del Pacífico is a group dedicated to Marimba de Chonta and the musical traditions born and rooted among the Black and Indigenous communities along the rivers and mangroves of Colombia and Ecuador’s Pacific Coast.
On their new 45, produced by Max Shrager, Korath leads Neblinas through a rousing performance of their original six-minute epic, “Fandango, Arrullo y Batey.”
A thunderous bombo drum provides the song’s foundation, while cununos and guasás weave hypnotic polyrhythms. Vocalist Federico Ardila sings in call and response with the ensemble’s eight members, and we are treated to a virtuosic Marimba de Chonta solo by Korath.

コロンビアとエクアドルの太平洋沿岸の川やマングローブの林に暮らす黒人や先住民のコミュニティで生まれ、根付いた伝統音楽マリンバ・デ・チョンタを受け継ぐサンフランシスコのバンドNeblinas del Pacíficoと、ラテン・グラミー賞にもノミネートされた女性音楽家、コロンビア太平洋岸地域の伝統音楽を継承するマリンバ奏者で、歌い手であり、学者でもあるというEryen Korathのコラボレーション。QUANTICもこのあたりの影響を反映してたんですね。マリンバ、ボンバドラムのポリリズム、生命感あふれる歌、リズム。スピリチュアル、アフロ・コロンビアの素晴らしい音楽。 (サイトウ)
